FPPV's role in the redevelopment of the Parkville Juvenile Justice Precinct involved completion works to the Melbourne Juvenile Justice Centre, the design and construction of a secure fencing system and the master planning, design and construction of the PYRC (Parkville Youth Residential Centre). The PYRC is a secure residential facility for young offenders in the age range of 10 to 18 years. The complex includes comprehensive educational facilities for both academic studies to trade courses. The facility has been designed at a residential scale to replicate a domestic setting. The various buildings have been located in such a manner that together with high grade landscaping, the overall environment is inviting and interesting. The overriding context was to create an environment for young people respecting them as young individuals with a worthwhile future. Following completion of the PYRC, FPPV was involved in the design and construction of a large indigenous garden which incorporates a watercourse, billabongs, bush tucker plants and other indigenous species. This garden invites contemplation and a peaceful demeanour and it's effect is both calming and therapeutic. |
